Donald Munro
Research Notes: Donald was supposed to have flourished towards the latter end of the reign of Malcolm II of Scotland, yo whom he rendered aid in his contests with the Danish invaders. For his services he received the lands between Dingwall and the river Aneron (or Alness Water). The lands received the name "Fearann-Domhnuill" anglicized to Ferindonald - "Donalds land" A portion of them became the Barony of Fowlis. Noted events in his life were: • Military Service, Abt 1025. 35 Came to Scotland with members of tribe to assist Malcolm II against invading Danes under Harold II of Denmark. Malcolm, at a parliament held at Scone, rewarded his supporters with land. Donald was granted the land by East Dingwall, which he called after his own name Ferindonald a Bunro (father's residence was on the Ro river) with the B becoming an M. • Death, 1039. 36 Ken Monro says 1039. Narrative in Mackenzie infers later (abt 1053) Donald married. |
